As autumn approaches, Fotografiska Tallinn turns its gaze to the stars with the major exhibition SPACE – A Visual Journey. In this episode you will meet Mackenzie Calle, whose well-known project “The Gay Space Agency” is also featured in the exhibition.
The project boldly challenges the history of the U.S. space program, which has excluded queer astronauts. Through the series, queer identities are celebrated, and the barriers that have prevented members of the LGBTQ+ community from flying are brought to light. The project consists of original photographs as well as reworked public domain archival material from NASA, offering a counter-narrative to the astronaut program’s history and envisioning a future of a diverse and inclusive space.
SPACE – A Visual Journey, group exhibition, September 13 – January 18
The exhibition SPACE – A Visual Journey explores the celestial frontier where artistic expression and scientific inquiry meet, and captures the grandeur of the cosmos through the eyes of astronomers and the interpretive visions of artists alike. Through works by 14 different artists, we encounter questions about Earth, space, and our identities – who we are in the face of eternity, and who has the right to dream about the future?
The podcast is hosted by Fotografiska guide Elo Aun. The podcast was recorded as a live episode at Fotografiska Tallinn on September 15, 2025.
